Qatar Condemns Iran’s Targeting of Saudi Tanker SIDR

Doha: The State of Qatar has expressed strong condemnation of Iran's targeting of the Saudi tanker SIDR as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This incident resulted in casualties among the crew of the tanker and has been described as a blatant violation of international law and maritime navigation rights, as well as a breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar issued a statement on Wednesday denouncing the act and emphasizing the country's firm opposition to using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for exerting pressure. The Ministry called for the immediate and unconditional reopening of the Strait, highlighting that freedom of navigation through this crucial passage is a fundamental and non-negotiable principle. The continued closure of the Strait, it warned, jeopardizes the vital interests of regional countries and the global economy.

The statement also underscored the necessity of stopping Iran's unwarranted assaults on the assets of neighboring countries. Qatar reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed support for any measures the Kingdom might undertake to protect its assets.
