Qatar Charity Concludes Heart Defect Treatment Campaign in Somalia

Mogadishu:Qatar Charity has successfully concluded a campaign aimed at treating heart defects in children, conducted in collaboration with Somalia's Ministry of Health, the Somali Sudanese Specialized Hospital, and the Mogadishu Heart Center. This initiative, part of the "27th Night of Ramadan" under the "Dafa'Al-Bala" campaign, sought to bolster specialized healthcare services in Somalia.

According to Qatar News Agency, the closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia. The campaign provided medical examinations and diagnostic assessments for 144 children suffering from heart conditions and congenital heart defects. Out of these, 40 children underwent cardiac catheterization procedures, which were necessary for their specialized treatment. These procedures were carried out by a team of consultants and specialists in pediatric cardiology and cardiac catheterization.

At the closing ceremony, Abdulfattah Adam Moallim, Director of Qatar Charity's Somalia Office, noted that the campaign exceeded its target of treating 35 cases by performing 40 cardiac catheterization procedures. He highlighted this as a response to the growing medical needs and announced plans for a new campaign focusing on pediatric open-heart surgery, aimed at addressing cases requiring advanced surgical interventions.

Medical professionals and partners involved in the campaign described it as a significant medical and humanitarian triumph. Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed, a consultant in pediatric congenital cardiology and cardiac catheterization, emphasized the positive impact of the campaign, noting it provided a new lease on life for many children. Dr. Iyad Al-Amouri, another consultant, praised the trust of Somali families and acknowledged the efforts of young Somali medical professionals as critical to the future of the country's health sector.

Qatar Charity has previously conducted three specialized campaigns in Somalia for treating heart defects in children, benefiting 97 children. With the recent 40 procedures, the total number of beneficiaries has risen to 137.
