Qatar and Tanzania Host Second Doha Dialogue on Labour Mobility

Doha:The Second Doha Dialogue on Labour Mobility was launched in Tanzania, marking an important event as labour mobility increasingly influences employment opportunities, skills development, economic growth, and social transformation.

According to Qatar News Agency, Deus Clement Sangu, Tanzania's Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office for Labour, emphasized the importance of labour migration in fostering employment and economic empowerment. Between 2022 and August 2026, 15,241 Tanzanians found jobs in Gulf countries, highlighting the cooperation between Tanzania and GCC governments.

Sangu outlined Tanzania's efforts to enhance labour-migration governance, which include developing legal frameworks, regulating recruitment agencies, and establishing transparent recruitment systems. He affirmed Tanzania's commitment to strengthening partnerships with African and GCC countries to promote ethical recruitment and sustainable development.

Mohammed bin Hassan Al Obaidli, Director-General of the Executive Bureau of the GCC Council of Ministers of Labour, praised Qatar's initiative and Tanzania's hosting of the event. He acknowledged the collaboration with the African Union Commission and expressed hope for ministerial discussions to lead to a declaration of shared priorities.

Othman Fouad Belbeisi, IOM Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, noted the Dialogue's theme, "From Commitment to Action," underscoring the need to translate commitments into practical cooperation. The IOM supports partnerships that align labour-market needs with available skills, aiming to establish fair recruitment and sustainable labour mobility pathways.
