Doha: The Palestinians languishing in the dungeons of the Israeli occupation have been subjected to all kinds of torture and dehumanization based on a methodical execution policy, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs (PCDEA) reported in a statement Wednesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement noted that the Palestinian lawyers who managed to huddle with their clients in Israeli detention facilities, notably at the prisons of Ramla (Ayalon), Negev, Ofer, and Megiddo, were able to fathom out the arbitrary and inhumane conditions endured by the detainees.
The inmates affirmed that in the past days, there has been an exceptional tightening of punitive measures, ranging from drastic reductions in food rations and the prohibition of delivering clothing, to the deliberate denial of medical treatment for the ailed prisoners, coupled with the systematic disregard of critical health cases, the statement continued.
PCDEA caveated that the condition in Ramla Prison portends a humanitarian catastrophe, as there is an intentional dereliction of duty in terms of medication and loss of the simplest treatment elements, with Negev Prison bursting at the seams and an upsurge in skin diseases and infections resulting from the lack of hygiene and sanitary environment.
At Megiddo Prison, the prisoners are subject to persistent inspection campaigns, with sections being shuttered for prolonged hours and fines and collective punishments imposed, purportedly directed toward inflicting psychological and moral exhaustion, the statement read.
It added that at Ofer Prison, the prisoners are reeling from malnutrition and worsening water quality, as those in charge of the facility deny them the right to meet with their families except through the lawyers, who have become the sole conduit to the outside world.
The Israeli occupation's policy is literally based on stripping the prisoners of every single daily need and maintaining the pressure on them with the objective of suppressing their will, the statement warned.
It added that this information will be referred to international and human rights institutions in detailed reports, including the International Red Cross, Human Rights Council, and the United Nations Special Rapporteurs. As such, PCDEA called for a prompt and public probe into these violations.
Notably, the Israeli occupation has ramped up its large-scale onslaught on all occupied Palestinian territories, whether in the West Bank, Jerusalem, or Gaza, resulting in the killing and wounding of thousands of civilians.
