Nikkei Surpasses 70,000 Points Amid Ceasefire Extension

Tokyo: Japan's Nikkei index rose on Thursday, surpassing the 70,000-point level after the United States and Iran extended their ceasefire, easing geopolitical tensions and supporting risk appetite. The Nikkei gained 1.65 percent to close at 71,053.49, after hitting an intraday high of 71,398.58. The broader Topix index also rose 1.37 percent to 4,068.18, marking an all-time high as well.

According to Qatar News Agency, semiconductor-related shares led gains on the Nikkei, with shares of Murata Manufacturing and SCREEN Holdings jumping 8.10 percent and 7.21 percent, respectively. Banking shares also advanced, supported by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, which rose 3.12 percent.

Market performance was broadly positive, with 136 stocks in the Nikkei advancing, compared with 84 decliners, while five stocks were unchanged.
