Kathmandu: The death toll from floods and mudslides that swept areas along the Nepal-China border has risen to 1,375, authorities said.

According to Qatar News Agency, Nepalese authorities reported that 1,344 people had been killed in the floods, while 4,898 individuals remained missing. Authorities have collected 2,232 DNA samples to assist in identifying the victims.

In China's Tibet region, a confirmed 31 people had died, and 531 remained missing, bringing the overall death toll from the disaster to 1,375, with 5,429 people still unaccounted for.

The United Nations and its humanitarian partners have launched an urgent appeal for $49.6 million to provide life-saving assistance to people affected by the floods in Nepal.

The disaster struck on August 26 after an avalanche sent a torrent of ice, rocks, and mud through the Trishuli River in the border region between Nepal and China. The surge swept through towns and villages, destroying homes and causing widespread damage to roads and other infrastructure.
