Doha: The fourth edition of Smart City Expo Doha 2025 concluded this evening. The event was held in parallel with MWC25 Doha, organized by GSMA in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
According to Qatar News Agency, in her closing remarks, Director of the Digital Innovation Department at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Iman Al Kuwari, expressed her sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. She noted that deep and forward-looking discussions were held on the future of urban development.
She highlighted that the conference brought international experts, educators, and delegates together to explore how to build the cities of tomorrow. The Smart City Expo was hosted alongside the Mobile World Congress in the Middle East for the first time, establishing Doha as a global platform where urban innovation leads the way. The discussions held during the expo reflect and reinforce national directions in this field.
Al Kuwari affirmed that Qatar is accelerating its transition toward a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030. She noted that the ministry's strategy aims to leverage smart technologies to deliver better services, enable economic diversification, and improve the quality of life for citizens, residents, and visitors. She emphasized the impact of digital transformation in major projects such as Smart City Urban, valued at $45 billion, and the Haba Downtown Doha project with investments of $7.4 billion.
Al Kuwari concluded her speech by announcing the next edition of the Smart City Expo, which will take place in April 2126. The fifth edition will offer new insights, inspiring talks, and innovative opportunities for collaboration and innovation toward a smarter future.
For his part, CEO of Fira de Barcelona International, Ricard Zapatero, expressed his appreciation for Qatar's role in organizing the expo. He explained that participation in this global event focuses on how technology can be used to improve people's lives, which is the ultimate goal they seek to achieve.
