Ministry of Transport Wins Innovation Award for Qatar Activity-Based Transport Model

Dubai:The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has achieved first place in the Innovation Category at the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) for its Qatar Activity-Based Transport Model (QABM).

According to Qatar News Agency, the DAST award acknowledged QABM as an innovative national tool that supports strategic transportation planning and data-driven decision-making. The award was presented to HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport Mohammed Abdullah Al Maadeed at a ceremony held under the patronage of HH Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

This accolade reinforces Qatar's commitment to developing innovative and data-driven transportation solutions. It highlights the Ministry's efforts to create an integrated, sustainable transportation ecosystem that enhances infrastructure efficiency and supports Qatar's future growth.

MOT's Assistant Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs, Eng. Abdullah Saif Al Sulaiti, emphasized that the achievement is a recognition of the Ministry's development of an advanced transportation modeling system. The QABM simulates daily activities and travel patterns, analyses transportation demand, and tests the impacts of future projects and policies, aiding efficient planning across Qatar's transportation system.

The QABM represents a shift from traditional mobility models by simulating the daily activities and travel patterns of individuals, including their mode of transport and interdependencies with household travel decisions. The model includes a comprehensive simulation of Qatar's transportation networks, featuring over 182,000 road segments and nearly 65,000 intersections.

The Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport is a regional initiative recognizing outstanding contributions in sustainable mobility and green infrastructure by various sectors, aiming to advance sustainable transportation practices.
