Latvia’s United List Achieves Unprecedented Election Success

Doha:Latvia's ruling United List alliance, led by Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs, achieved a historic victory in the recent parliamentary election, marking the largest number of seats won by a single political force since the country regained its independence in 1991.

According to Qatar News Agency, with nearly all ballots counted, the United List garnered 35.3% of the vote, securing 42 out of 100 seats in the Saeima, Latvia's unicameral parliament. This result surpasses the previous record of 36 seats held by the Latvian Way in 1993.

Prime Minister Kulbergs expressed his gratitude to the voters in a video message posted on X, pledging to fulfill his duties with utmost seriousness and commitment.

The voter turnout was recorded at 51.8%, marking the lowest participation in a Latvian parliamentary election since independence was restored, as noted by election authorities.

In the election, Latvia First secured the second position with 17 seats, followed by Sovereign Power/Union of Young Latvians with 15 seats. The National Alliance and the Progressives each obtained 10 seats, while New Unity received seven.
