La Liga: Real Madrid Keeps Pace With Barcelona With Win Over Rayo Vallecano

Doha: Real Madrid defeated visiting Rayo Vallecano, 4-1, on Saturday in the fifth round of the Spanish La Liga. Kylian Mbappe scored twice, converting a penalty in the 14th minute before adding another goal in the first minute of stoppage time. Alvaro Carreras scored in the 17th minute and Jude Bellingham added another in the 35th. Sergio Camello scored Rayo Vallecano's lone goal in the 51st minute.

According to Qatar News Agency, the victory kept Real Madrid in pursuit of Barcelona at the top of the standings, lifting its tally to 12 points in second place, level with leaders Barcelona. Barcelona can move clear when it visits Levante on Sunday in the same round.

Rayo Vallecano remained on four points in 15th place. Elsewhere, Espanyol defeated hosts Osasuna, 2-0, to move to seven points in seventh place, one point behind sixth-place Deportivo La Coruna, which faces Getafe on Sunday. Osasuna remained on seven points in 12th place.

Racing Santander beat Alaves, 2-1, moving to seven points in 10th place, while Alaves remained third with 10 points. Athletic Bilbao drew 1-1 with Elche, taking its tally to seven points in ninth place. Elche moved to two points in 19th.

Sevilla defeated Valencia, 1-0, on Friday. The fifth round continues Sunday with Celta Vigo facing Malaga, Levante hosting Barcelona, Getafe taking on Deportivo La Coruna and Real Sociedad facing Atletico Madrid. The round concludes Monday, when Villarreal hosts Real Betis.
