Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen: Supplementing Prisoner Exchange Process by Releasing (104) Houthi Detainees in A Humanitarian Initiative by the Kingdom

Statement by the Official Spokesperson of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Brigadier General Turki Al-Malki:

“The prisoner exchange process has been supplemented with the release of (104) Houthi detainees in a humanitarian initiative by the Kingdom.

This initiative is an extension of previous humanitarian initiatives regarding prisoners and detainees by the Kingdom, aiming to support the efforts to sustain the ceasefire and create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue between Yemeni parties to reach a sustainable, comprehensive political resolution to the Yemeni crisis. This initiative’s objective is to urge the parties to the conflict to support the prisoners and detainees exchange process in line with Islamic values, humanitarian principles, fundamental Arabian values and traditions and the International Humanitarian Law as specified in the III Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition has finalized the procedures for releasing the (104) detainees in coordination with the ICRC. They have been transported to Sana’a today (Monday 17 April 2023).

Finalizing the prisoners and detainees exchange process is a matter of prime concern for the political and military leaderships of the Coalition, as this process is based purely on humanitarian grounds and principles
