JEPCO: Unprecedented electrical loads, no serious outages during heat wave

The Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO) Tuesday reported record loads amid the heat wave that gripped the Kingdom in the past days, reaching a peak of 2,950 megawatt yesterday, 30 percent up from average at this time of year. The company said Amman and Zarqa recorded unprecedented electrical loads, but its crews and response teams were on a high level of readiness to deal with any power cuts in the field and maintain an uninterrupted power supply. It said it received complaints about minor outages within its areas of operation that were promptly dealt with during the high temperatures, which hit 43.7 celsius in Amman Monday. The company had deployed about 1,700 engineers, technicians and workers, as well as operations rooms with more than 600 machines ready to respond to any electrical breakdowns. For its part, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission said that the electrical faults recorded were "limited and normal" and had been dealt with promptly, noting a state of alert the electricity company announced ahead of the heat wave.
