Japan’s Nikkei Surges as AI and Semiconductor Stocks Drive Gains

Tokyo: The Japanese Nikkei index witnessed a significant rise of 2.08 percent on Monday, marking its highest close in approximately four weeks. This upward movement was primarily fueled by gains in artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei climbed to 66,970.22 points, reaching its peak closing level since July 15. Similarly, the broader Topix index saw a 0.63 percent increase, closing at 4,100.61 points. Individual stocks within the semiconductor sector demonstrated robust performance, with Advantest and Tokyo Electron shares rising by 6.43 percent and 4.13 percent, respectively. Additionally, optical-fiber cable maker Fujikura saw its shares jump by 7.62 percent.

In the field of artificial intelligence, Ibiden, a supplier to Nvidia, experienced a 4.03 percent rise in shares. Meanwhile, Recruit Holdings made a notable leap of 22.79 percent. On the contrary, shares of Mitsui Kinzoku, a manufacturer of materials for lithium-ion batteries, saw a decline of 13.55 percent.
