Baghdad: The government won't relent but forge ahead to fully reach a resolution to the issue of the state's monopoly on weapons, Iraq's National Security Adviser, Qasim al Araji, said Tuesday. He stressed that anyone who is proven to have been involved in targeting the neighboring countries would be held accountable.

According to Qatar News Agency, Araji said the government is fully willing to reach that resolution, noting that there would be an agreement on the issues of factions and the disposition and integration of their personnel. This issue is purely Iraqi and would be resolved based on the nation's interests without any foreign interference, Araji underlined.

On the Global Coalition's drawdown from Iraq, Araji highlighted that the government doesn't need to connect the withdrawal timeline with the issue of the state's monopoly on weapons. He continued that Baghdad would keep coordinating and consulting with the United States following this withdrawal in accordance with the agreements signed with Washington.

The advisor further stated that the government doesn't need to clash or use force, but is working to forge understanding and containment, emphasizing that Iraq is committed to maintaining its strategic relationships and Arab depth and achieving enduring security and stability. Earlier, the General Command of the Armed Forces had affirmed the government's commitment to the Sept. 30 deadline for ending the international coalition's mission in Iraq. It noted that the withdrawal process was proceeding at a rapid pace based on the timelines agreed upon.
