Doha: The United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, and the United Kingdom, together with the African Union, European Union, Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), League of Arab States, and the United Nations, have expressed deep concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict in Sudan, which has persisted since April 15, 2023.
According to Qatar News Agency, a joint statement was issued following consultations between the Quintet Group and Sudanese political stakeholders in Addis Ababa from June 3 to 5. The statement highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis, noting millions are facing displacement, acute food insecurity, limited access to basic services, and ongoing attacks on civilians and infrastructure.
The statement underlined that there is no military solution to the crisis, emphasizing the necessity for any sustainable settlement to be grounded in an inclusive political process led by civilian forces and reflective of the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
It also welcomed the outcomes of recent conferences in Berlin and Addis Ababa as significant steps toward enhancing international coordination and support for a civilian-led path toward a peaceful resolution in Sudan.
