German Police Defuse Drone Carrying Explosive Device at Leipzig/Halle Airport

Doha: German police experts managed to defuse a drone carrying an explosive device at Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Saxony police said specialists removed the detonator from the explosive device, whose type hasn't yet been identified. State authorities don't rule out a politically motivated motive behind the incident, which explains the involvement of the Counterterrorism Center in the investigation, noting that the airport is considered critical infrastructure.

A second unidentified object also collided with a cargo aircraft after the plane was forced to take off again due to the runway closure earlier. After landing in Hanover, minor damage was detected on the aircraft. A police spokesman said investigations are underway to determine whether there is a link between the two incidents, confirming that there is no immediate danger at the moment.
