Doha:The Third Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Conference commenced on Tuesday, bringing together officials and experts from international institutions for a two-day event.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference is organized in collaboration with Qatar Chamber (QC), Hawkama International, and the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals in the United Kingdom. It focuses on the significant role of financial institutions and the private sector in transitioning towards a sustainable economy, emphasizing responsible corporate practices and risk management related to environmental, social, and governance aspects.
Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, First Vice Chairman of QC, highlighted the importance of ESG standards in enhancing corporate sustainability, competitiveness, and adaptability to global economic changes. During the opening session, he emphasized that sustainability now encompasses environmental, social, and governance responsibilities, enhancing trust among enterprises and stakeholders.
Al Kuwari stressed QC's commitment to promoting governance and sustainability principles within the business community, which aids in boosting corporate efficiency and competitiveness. He noted QC's efforts in encouraging the Qatari private sector to align with global developments, focusing on responsible practices and transparency to enhance investor confidence and Qatar's business environment.
Dr. Buthaina Al Ansari, Chairperson of Hawkama International and Conference President, announced the launch of Qatar's specialized digital platform for ESG reporting. The platform aims to help institutions prepare reports according to international standards, improving data quality and institutional practices. Dr. Al Ansari also commended Qatar's financial sector for its role in supporting sustainability objectives and promoting sustainable finance.
The conference includes various panel discussions on integrating sustainability standards into corporate strategies, with a focus on governance, transparency, and disclosure to reinforce institutional performance and build confidence among investors and stakeholders.
