Doha:CNN's "Global Perspectives" series made its debut in the Middle East and Gulf region in Doha. The event, titled "Global Perspectives In Doha," brought together international leaders and experts to discuss the forces reshaping politics, the global economy, technology, investment, culture, sports, and media.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event was organized by CNN in partnership with Media City Qatar, serving as the host partner. The Doha edition of the series aimed to provide a platform for dialogue on key issues, trends, and developments shaping the global landscape. In his opening remarks, HE Chairman of Media City Qatar Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani emphasized the importance of dialogue, exchange of perspectives, and mutual understanding, noting Doha's role as a meeting point for ideas and expertise from around the world.
Sheikh Dr. Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani highlighted Media City Qatar's efforts in building an integrated media ecosystem that connects international organizations with the region, its people, and ideas. This ecosystem comprises over 550 licensed companies, with around 70 percent based outside the region, and includes leading international media organizations. Media City Qatar has supported over 30 local projects across various media forms, including documentaries, drama series, films, gaming, and podcasts. Additionally, three film companies licensed by Media City Qatar have been selected to participate in an international film festival this year.
The partnership with CNN includes the launch of the CNN Academy's first program in Qatar, which offered practical training to 35 students from universities across the country. The program focused on storytelling, mobile journalism, news verification, and field reporting. Sheikh Dr. Abdulla expressed hope that the discussions at the event would deepen understanding of the region and challenge preconceived notions about the world.
Sir Mark Thompson, Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, praised Qatar's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue, highlighting its efforts in resolving conflicts and laying the groundwork for a prosperous future. He noted CNN's long-standing presence in the region, which has strengthened its coverage and partnerships. Thompson commended the CNN team and speakers for their contributions to the event, underscoring the partnership with Media City Qatar as vital to its success.
The event featured sessions moderated by leading CNN anchors and correspondents, exploring developments in artificial intelligence, the global economy, energy, sports, and culture under the theme "The Invisible World."
