China: Three people have died and 558 others are missing following a mudslide that hit a port on the China-Nepal border in the Tibet Autonomous Region, according to reports released by Chinese authorities on Thursday morning.

According to Qatar News Agency, the mudslide occurred on the Nepalese side and impacted the Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Tibet Autonomous Region, on Wednesday morning. In response to the disaster, Chinese authorities initiated large-scale rescue operations on Thursday. A Level II emergency response for geological disasters was activated, and a task force was dispatched to the affected site to manage rescue efforts and mitigate the risk of secondary disasters.

The mudslide severely disrupted infrastructure, cutting off roads leading to the port on the Chinese side and severing communications and power supplies. Meanwhile, Nepalese authorities have reported that massive floods have claimed at least 162 lives in a border area between Nepal and China. The floods have also resulted in hundreds of tourists, workers, and others being reported missing, and travel has been suspended in some areas.

Gyirong Port serves as a significant land port, connecting China and Nepal, emphasizing the strategic importance of the area affected by the disaster.
