Qatar Participates in Meeting of Ambassadors of Members of the Non-Aligned Movement and China

The State of Qatar participated in the virtual meeting of ambassadors of members of the Non-Aligned Movement and China accredited by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the OPCW Abdullah bin Hussein Al Jaber.

The meeting focused on discussing the agenda of the 25th session of the Conference of the States Parties which will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 in The Hague.

Permanent Representatives of Qatar, Poland Appointed to Lead Negotiations on UNSC Reform

HE President of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir appointed HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani and HE Permanent Representative of Poland Ambassador Joanna Wronecka to lead and facilitate negotiations on Security Council reform, in accordance with General Assembly resolutions calling for reform of the Council in terms of equitable representation and increasing the number of its members and other issues related to Security Council reform.

Bozkir said, in a letter to all UN Member States, that the General Assembly decided to continue the intergovernmental negotiations on Security Council reform at an informal session of the General Assembly during its 75th session.

He added that this early appointment should provide an opportunity for Member States to start consultations on issues related to Security Council reform at an appropriate time.

Appointing HE Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to this task comes in recognition of the role of the State of Qatar in the United Nations, its belief in the principle of multilateralism and its keenness to develop the mechanisms of work of the international organization to achieve its goals, including reforming the work of the Security Council.

Cabinet Approves 4 Drafts MOU’s

HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani chaired the regular weekly Cabinet meeting held it yesterday noon at its headquarters at the Amiri Diwan.
After the meeting, H.E. Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi stated the following:

At the beginning of the meeting, the Cabinet listened to the explanation provided by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and the Cabinet affirmed the continuation of work with the precautionary measures that have been taken in order to combat this epidemic.

After that, the Cabinet considered the topics on the agenda as follows:
First – Approval of the proposal of the National Tourism Council to participate in a number of foreign exhibitions during 2021.

Second – Approval of:

1- A draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of social affairs between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the State of Kuwait.

2- A draft memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at the Ministry of Justice in the State of Qatar and the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies in the State of Kuwait.

3- A draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of supervisory action work between the State Audit Bureau in the State of Qatar and the Audit Bureau in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

4- A draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of supervisory work between the State Audit Bureau in the State of Qatar and the Supreme Council of Accounts in the Kingdom of Morocco.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets GCC Secretary-General

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met Tuesday with HE GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Falah Al Hajraf, who is currently visiting the country.

The meeting dealt with exchanging views on the progress of the Gulf Cooperation Council, in addition to issues of joint interest.

Qatar, Kuwait Joint Supreme Committee for Cooperation Holds Fifth Session

The Joint Supreme Committee for Cooperation between the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait held its fifth session on Tuesday via video conference.

The Qatari side was chaired by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, while the Kuwaiti side was chaired by HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

 

During the committee’s fifth session, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation relations, as well as enhancing cooperation, achieving more integration in various sectors, and exchanging views on issues of common concern.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait signed five memoranda of understanding and the minutes of the fifth session between the two countries. The agreements were signed by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.

The agreements include a memoranda of understanding for cooperation in the fields of encouraging direct investment, civil service affairs and administrative development, Islamic affairs between the governments of the two countries, various agricultural fields and improving the implementation, construction and maintenance of roads during the work of the Joint Supreme Committee for Cooperation, in addition to the signing of the meeting minutes of the fifth session.

 

At the outset of the State of Qatar’s speech during the fifth session of the committee’s meetings, HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs offered condolences on the death of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabor Al-Sabah. His Excellency said that the region lost a father and a great leader who was characterized by wisdom and good opinion, who devoted his life and effort to serving his country, the Arab and Islamic nation and the world. His Excellency added that the State of Qatar will continue to remember with full appreciation and pride the noble stances of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabor Al-Sabah towards Qatar and its people, especially during the current Gulf crisis.

HE Deputy Prime Minister wished the State of Kuwait success and prosperity under the leadership of HH the Amir of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and HH Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

 

His Excellency affirmed that the fifth session of the Qatari-Kuwaiti Joint Supreme Committee for Cooperation during this very delicate regional and international circumstances is an embodiment of the wise political will of the leaders of the two countries. It also reflects the depth and strength of the distinguished relationship and the close bilateral ties, His Excellency said, while adding that through this session, they exchanged views on issues of common interest to strengthen cooperation and achieve more integration in various sectors to achieve the common interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.

Relations between Qatar and Kuwait are well-established, reflected in the strengthening of the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and the increase in the pace of economic cooperation in an unprecedented manner, His Excellency pointed out.

 

In the political field, His Excellency expressed satisfaction in Qatar and Kuwait’s united visions on regional and international issues, adding that the Qatari side looks forward to enhancing coordination and cooperation regarding issues of interest to the people of the Gulf, as well as Arab, Islamic nations, and the world.

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani thanked HE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah for the fraternal feelings in his speech and for his keenness to strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries, wishing that this session success in achieving the desired goals and results for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
