Doha:The 6th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention wrapped up in Doha on Wednesday after three days of discussions.
According to Qatar News Agency, the conference was chaired by HE Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad, President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA), and gathered representatives from 21 member states as well as delegates from regional and international partner organizations.
The conference focused on enhancing integrity, transparency, and anti-corruption frameworks, evaluating the implementation of the convention, and promoting inter-Arab cooperation and the exchange of institutional expertise. In his closing remarks, HE Al Misnad emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in combating corruption and highlighted the need for cooperation, experience sharing, and integrating roles across institutions.
HE Al Misnad noted that the discussions underscored the necessity to continuously develop tools to prevent corruption and adapt to institutional and technological changes. He stressed that the achievements of this session should serve as a launchpad for further joint action, encouraging states to maintain the momentum and translate agreements into concrete practices and initiatives.
He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting joint Arab efforts, promising continued collaboration to enhance institutional capabilities, exchange knowledge, and uphold accountability and the rule of law. He also pointed out that shared Arab values provide a strong foundation for advancing integrity and transparency.
Dr. Maha Bakheet, Head of the Legal Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States and Head of the Secretariat of the Conference, reiterated the convention's role in enhancing member states' capabilities and fostering cooperation to combat corruption. She highlighted the importance of Arab cooperation in addressing this transnational issue and called for member states to complete ratification procedures, with 15 countries having ratified the convention so far.
The conference agenda included reviewing the implementation of previous session decisions, recommendations, and reports from expert committees, as well as draft resolutions like the Doha Declaration on Strengthening Preventive Measures Against Corruption.
The session concluded with the adoption of outcomes aimed at advancing joint Arab action, including the election of its 6th session bureau HE President of ACTA Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad as President, HE Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi from Oman as Vice President, and Algeria's Brahim Boukendakdji as Rapporteur.
