5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes South Sandwich Islands

An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck the South Sandwich Islands, one of the British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.

There have been no reports of material damage or causalities as a result of the earthquake.

On Jan. 1, an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude struck the South Sandwich Islands, at a depth of 40 km.

The South Sandwich Islands are an archipelago that forms part of the “South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands,” which is an overseas territory of the UK.
