WFP calls for establishing humanitarian corridors in Gaza

The World Food Program (WFP) on Tuesday called for establishing humanitarian corridors to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and assistance into Gaza, and to provide safe and unhindered passage for its staff and basic goods. The WFP launched an emergency operation to provide food to more than 800,000 people in Gaza and the West Bank, who are facing difficult conditions and lack food, water, and basic supplies, according to a program statement. The WFP said it urgently needs to ensure its ability to access and finance to support those in need, noting that about $17.3 million is needed in the next four weeks to deal “with this critical situation.”The WFP added that, in cooperation with UNRWA, it distributed ready-to-eat food supplies to 73,000 displaced people in shelters in Gaza, amid fears of the depletion of vital resources in the city such as food, water and electricity, with the severely damaged infrastructure hindering food production, food supplies and distribution networks.
