Washington Summons Russian Ambassador Over Detention of US Reporter in Moscow

The US summoned Russian ambassador to Washington for a meeting on March 30 over the detention of a US reporter, Spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House John Kirby said on Wednesday.

A Russian court ruled on March 30 that Wall street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich should be detained for two months over espionage charges, an unprecedented move that provoked Washington’s concerns.

Following the move, the Russian presidency warned the US authorities against doing the same against Russian journalists on its territory.

This comes amid tensions between the two countries over the war in Ukraine, with Washington accusing Moscow of detaining many of its citizens for political reasons. (QNA)
