US State Department Regional Spokesperson told QNA: We Thank Qatar for Its Efforts in Releasing American Detainees in Iran

US Department of State Regional Spokesperson Samuel Warburg extended the thanks of the United States to the State of Qatar for its valuable efforts and mediation in securing the release of several American detainees held in Iran as part of a prisoner exchange that also involved the United States releasing five Iranians held in its custody.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Monday, Warburg expressed appreciation to the State of Qatar for its instrumental role in reaching this agreement, which facilitated the safe return of American citizens to their families.

He added that the US administration and the American people are not only celebrating the United Nations General Assembly in New York but also the successful return of these American detainees from Iran.

Warburg noted that the United States focuses on collaborating and cooperating with Qatar and other regional nations to address various issues related to Iran and regional challenges.

He stressed that Qatar has played and continues to play a vital role in addressing shared challenges in the region. He noted Qatar’s key role and important mediation efforts between the United States and the Taliban following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021.

Earlier today, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, announced that five citizens of the United States of America who were detained in the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran had been released in exchange for the release of several detainees of the Islamic Republic of Iran held by the United States of America as part of the agreement between the two countries on the exchange of detainees, which was mediated by the State of Qatar.
