US President Announces New Military Aid for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine on Sunday and told President Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting in Japan that the United States was doing all it could to strengthen Ukraine’s defense for the war with Russia.

Biden, during his meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit of world leaders, said that the military aid package included ammunition, artillery and armored vehicles, after he gave the green light to the allies to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.

The aid aims to provide medium and long-term supplies to Ukraine. Last week, the US Department of Defense announced the 37th aid package to Ukraine since August 2021 valued at $300 million.

The United States is leading an international campaign to help Ukraine. It quickly formed an alliance of countries to support Kyiv after the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022. Recently, Ukraine received the first US Patriot air defense systems and French AMX-10 light combat tanks. In addition to the Patriot systems, the West plans to provide Kyiv with tanks to equip Ukrainian forces for an offensive to recapture territory controlled by Russia in the east and south.
