GAZA CITY – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has reported that it is receiving only half of the fuel necessary to maintain its operations in the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to Jordan News Agency, UNRWA’s media advisor, the agency is currently receiving 60,000 liters of fuel daily, which constitutes only half of what is required to sustain minimum operational levels in Gaza. The limited fuel supply has been allocated to critical services such as water desalination plants, hospitals, bakeries, wastewater disposal, and solid waste collection. Despite these measures, Gazans are only receiving two-thirds of their drinking water needs. Abu Hasna also highlighted the environmental and health hazards posed by the situation, noting that streets in Gaza are inundated with sewage due to the lack of sufficient fuel to manage water drainage effectively. The reduced fuel supply significantly hampers UNRWA’s ability to provide essential services in the midst of the ongoing conflict and exacerbates the already challenging humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
