Mohammed Al Satouhi, a writer and political analyst in the US, affirmed that Qatari-American relations are witnessing a new leap in light of the developments taking place at various levels and the importance of the State of Qatar’s regional and global role.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency , Al Satouhi stated that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was the first Arab and Gulf leader to visit the White House in an official visit after the current US administration took office, as US President Joe Biden received HH in early 2022. The visit witnessed the announcement that Qatar is a major non-NATO ally of the United States, he added.
He considered that granting Qatar the special exceptional status as a major non-NATO ally has implications for relations between the two countries, whether from a security and military or commercial and economic perspective. He pointed out that this matter is not only related to Washington but also conveys a message to the US-allied nations about the nature of the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Al Satouhi emphasized that Qatari-American relations are very strong at all levels, and classifying Qatar as a major non-NATO ally provides the greatest stability to the nature of this relationship.
He stressed that regardless of the results of the upcoming US elections, the nature of strong and stable relations between the US and Qatar will not be affected by any transformation that may occur in the White House.
Al Satouhi added that there are fixed fundamentals in US foreign policy, and this will not change Washington’s view of the State of Qatar, its importance, and its regional and global role.
He noted that the world is witnessing geostrategic shifts, stressing the importance of regional countries recognizing these changes and maintaining their position amid these international and regional transformations.
In this context, he saw that Qatar has succeeded in asserting its position amid the political and economic challenges facing the world. He stressed that Qatar’s importance has been greatly highlighted in its ability to maintain energy supplies and alleviate pressure, especially on European countries affected by the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.
In conclusion, he reiterated to QNA that despite the significant international transformations the world is going through, regional countries can maintain their regional and global role so that they are not ignored in the future.
