UN Youth Delegate Calls for Intensified Efforts to Overcome Challenges Facing Developing Countries, LDCs

Doha, March 05 (QNA) – United Nations Youth Delegate Reekelitsoe Molapo called decision-makers and heads of states to intensify the efforts and coordinate the action to overcome the challenges that face developing countries, and support the process of sustainable emergence out of the least developed countries (LDCs) list through the systematic integration of youth in implementing Doha Program of Action for the Decade 2022-2031.

During her speech in the opening session of the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which was inaugurated today in Doha, Molapo stressed the importance of social and financial investment in youth and creating the proper environment for them to thrive as well as realizing their potential.

She pointed out the need to work with decision-makers to achieve a genuine change in the LDCs, discuss the challenges and aspirations that include engaging youth in work related to achieving the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), and provide decent jobs, high-quality education, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The UN Youth Delegate expressed her hope for societies where youth can reach their potential, obtain their rights, and be acknowledged as stakeholders in implementing periodic programs related to supporting, monitoring, and evaluating them.

At the conclusion of her speech, she said that partnership with the youth in the LDCs needs a review of all old unsustainable systems, and requires the total commitment of governments, individuals, institutions, civil society, and the private sector to achieve the SDGs set by the international community, calling on the youth to continue their efforts and adopt strategies to influence policies and action plans.
