UN Assistant Secretary-General: UNDP is Committed to Empowering Young People in Marginalized Societies

Doha, March 05 (QNA) – UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator Haoliang Xu affirmed the UNDP commitment to support youth issues, through projects and initiatives, which are presented in the 46 less developed countries (LDCs).

In his speech at the second session of the youth path, within the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which convened Sunday at the Qatar National Convention Center, under the title “From potential to prosperity,” Xu said UNDP is committed since 2016 to empower young people in marginalized societies, who have supported the 16 sustainable development goals in Togo and Nepal, via the Youth Global Programme for Sustainable Development and Peace – Youth-GPS, to support peace-building organizations in Malawi and Solomon Islands.

UN Assistant Secretary-General added that UNDP assists in building the competencies and training of young innovators, who seek to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals, similar to what happened in the Arab Youth Leadership Program in Somalia and Yemen, as well as its support for youth social projects and digital and green solutions in Bangladesh and Cambodia.

HE Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari and HE CEO of Education Above All Foundation Fahad Al Sulaiti participated in the session, along with a youth group of marginalized societies and conflict areas, and others representing civil society and young business leaders.
