The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has received a contribution from the British government, provided through UK AID, to bolster its cash assistance program for the most vulnerable refugees in Jordan. According to a UNHCR statement on Tuesday, this support will continue to assist approximately 23,000 refugee families across the Kingdom, helping them meet their basic needs through cash assistance. UNHCR Representative in Jordan, Maria Stavropoulou, expressed her gratitude for the increased contribution from the United Kingdom, noting that it is the largest in several years. She also acknowledged the vital support from other donors, which enables the UNHCR to sustain its essential cash assistance program for refugees. British Minister of Development, Anneliese Dodds, announced a £7 million ($9 million) grant to the UNHCR during her visit to Jordan earlier this month. The UNHCR has highlighted a need for $15.9 million to fund its cash assistance program, and the agency has been intensif ying efforts to secure additional support, particularly from Gulf countries.
