Tunisian Authorities Thwart 34 Illegal Immigration

The Tunisian authorities announced that they had thwarted 34 illegal immigration operations.

According to a statement by the Tunisian National Guard, 1,237 migrants were rescued, including 1,195 from Sub-Saharan Africa and 42 Tunisians.

During the first quarter of this year, the Tunisian authorities announced that they arrested more than 14,000 immigrants who were trying to reach Italy, at a time when the government is facing pressure from its European partners to strengthen its efforts to curb waves of illegal immigration across the eastern coasts of the country.
