The Taliban enters the Afghan capital..and allows safe passage for those who choose to leave / expanded

Baghdad The Afghan Ministry of Interior announced today, Sunday, that Taliban militants have begun to enter the capital from all directions.

The media reported that the movement’s gunmen seized Kabul University, west of the city, and raised their movement flags over at least one of the capital’s neighborhoods, amid reports that government buildings were urgently evacuated from officials.

These field developments come against the background of the United States continuing the process of evacuating its embassy staff from the Afghan capital.

A US official said in an interview with Reuters: The main members of the American crew in Kabul are working from its airport now, explaining that less than 50 employees of the Washington embassy will remain in the city at the present time.

For his part, a NATO official pointed out that many employees of the European Union countries have moved to a safer location in Kabul in light of the Taliban’s advance.

Reuters news agency quoted a Taliban leader in the Qatari capital, Doha, as saying that: The movement’s leadership has ordered the fighters to refrain from violence in Kabul and to allow the safe passage of anyone who chooses to leave.

He added: The movement asks women to seek refuge in safe places.
