The Embassy of the State of Qatar in the French Republic participated in the 39th session of “European Heritage Days” event, which focused this year on the theme of “Sustainable Heritage”.
On this occasion, the embassy opened its doors so visitors were able to enter the embassy building known as the “Landolfo-Carcano Palace”, which has been listed on the list of historic buildings in France since 1976, and to see all the murals and oil paintings on its walls and ceilings since its construction in 1867, in addition to sculptures by the most famous French and European painters and sculptors, such as Rembrandt, Rodin, and Mazirol.
This year, visitors had the opportunity to see the exhibition of models of the eight Qatari stadiums designated to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was organized by the embassy. The exhibition will establish a sustainable legacy that contributes to promoting the sustainable development goals of the United Nations and Qatar’s National Vision 2030.
His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to France, stressed the importance of cultural heritage as one of the main pillars of sustainable development, referring to the State of Qatar’s tireless endeavor to keep the civilizational and cultural heritage alive in various events and occasions.
He also emphasized the importance of the tournament, which will be hosted by the State of Qatar in November and December, pointing out that it will represent a historic moment in the march of the State of Qatar and the region, in addition to setting a new standard for sustainable heritage projects.
He said that Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is a motivating force to consolidate a lasting legacy that achieves tangible change in society, welcoming football fans to celebrate the upcoming football festival and introduce them to the customs and traditions of Qatari society and the hospitality that characterizes Arab culture.
The activities of the “European Heritage Days”, launched by the Council of Europe in 1985 in France, were transformed into a joint initiative between the Council of Europe and the European Commission in 1999, to allow citizens since that time to discover the cultural wealth of European countries and learn about the history of characters and places that contributed to the melting of European culture and heritage.
