Sudanese Parties Postpone Signing of Political Agreement Due to Outstanding Issues

Official spokesman of the political process in Sudan Eng. Khalid Omer Yousif announced that the signing of a final political agreement in Sudan has been postponed due to the lack of consensus on some outstanding issues.

The civilian and military signatories of the framework agreement and the tripartite mechanism will meet at the Presidential Palace later on Saturday to set a new date for the signing of the final political agreement, Yousif said in a statement.

He noted that the parties will continue engagement in serious discussions, in order to overcome the recent obstacles on the way to reaching an agreement that restores the path of civil democratic transition, according to which a civilian government is formed to lead the transition period, and lift the suffering of the people, who have never backed down from achieving their goals.

The final agreement leading to a civilian Sudanese government was due to be signed this month, however, the emergence of disagreements this week over the timetable for integrating the Rapid Support Forces into the army contributed to a new divergence of views between the military and civilian components.
