Doha: A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Michigan Medical Center in the United States has shown that people with heart failure experience a more rapid decline in cognitive function. Scientists analyzed medical data from nearly 30,000 adults with heart failure and discovered that these patients already had significant impairments in memory, attention, and problem-solving skills at the start of the study. Seven years after their heart failure was detected, their cognitive decline was equivalent to 10 years of cognitive decline in the general population. The decline in IQ was particularly pronounced among older adults and women. According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Supriya Shore from the university noted that patients with heart failure need to strictly adhere to medical recommendations, but declining cognitive abilities make it difficult for them to properly monitor their health. The researchers advised heart failure patients to regularly monitor their brain health and cognitive stat us. They noted that many patients are unaware of the seriousness of their condition, and their doctors often avoid frank conversations with them about their health and cognitive status. The researchers emphasized that the results of the study, published in the Circulation Heart Failure medical journal, highlight the importance of quickly identifying cognitive impairment in people with heart failure. This early identification will allow doctors to adjust treatment and improve patients' quality of life.
