Speaker of Shura Council: Qatar Pays Special Attention to Arab, Islamic Systems -2-


On his part, HE Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States (PUIC) Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass expressed in his speech his sincere thanks to the State of Qatar and the Shura Council for hosting this important conference and congratulated the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments on being selected as an observer member in the union during its 17th session held in Algeria in January.



He called on the members of the association to participate in the fifth meeting of the association of general secretaries of the union of councils of member states of the OIC set to be held in early 2024 in Abidjan to provide the association with their rich experiences to meet the aspirations of its members in the Islamic world.



Niass said that choosing the topic of “Digital Democracy and Social Communication and the Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Them” as the theme of Tuesday’s conference in Doha reflects the association’s ambitions to adapt and keep pace with the digital developments to strengthen democracy through the Arab parliamentary and legislative councils.



He stressed the importance of the role of the members of Arab legislative councils in this field and providing proposals and easing the path of their councils in this field, especially with the worrying reality of artificial intelligence and its consequences and benefits.



The 10th Conference of the Association of the Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments brings together more than 80 participants of the Secretaries-General, parliament representatives, and legislative councils in addition to several representatives of Arab parliamentary organizations and unions.



Organized by the Shura Council, the conference will several reports on the association’s work, its financial budget, and future activities.



The agenda will also include the 43rd General Assembly meeting and a workshop on digital democracy and social communication and the role of parliaments in strengthening them.



During the conference, the participants will continue discussing several issues, including the powers of the secretaries-general and issuing a guide for the association, in addition to considering the results and recommendations by the committee discussing and studying amendments to the association’s internal regulations and the committee studying proposals and recommendations related to issuing a guide to powers of the secretary-general in Arab parliaments in preparation for its approval.



Ahead of the 10th conference of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, the 39th meeting of the association’s executive committee is scheduled to be held.



The executive committee of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments earlier held its 39th meeting, headed by HE Shura Council Secretary General, President of the Association Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadala.



The State of Qatar, represented by the Shura Council, holds the presidency of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, as HE Secretary-General of the Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadala was elected president of the association on the sidelines of its meeting in Cairo in February 2022.



The Kuwait-based association contributes to improving Arab parliamentary work and coordinating Arab positions on various issues and topics.
