SILAIYLI wins Al Rakayat Cup at Al Uqda

The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) organised the second race meeting in the 2022-23 season at the Uqda Racecourse turf track on Saturday, 26 November. The seven-race card day was wrapped up with the feature event, Al Rakayat Cup, a Handicap (75-95), for three-year-old and older Thoroughbred. The Mohammed Abdulhadi Al Hajri-owned Silaiyli (IRE) (Olympic Glory x Sinaniya), on seasonal debut, won Al Rakayat Cup, landed the spoils in the 2300m contest. Ridden by Faleh Bughanaim, the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki-trained 4YO stretched comfortably clear to win the 2300m Handicap (75-95) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds by 1½ lengths. The Nasser Saeed M S Al-Eida-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Gold Fleece (GB) (Nathaniel) finished second under Marco Casamento only a neck ahead of the third-placed the Abdullah Bin Ali Bin Khalifa Al Attiya-owned and Hadi Al Ramzani-trained Karbasann (IRE) (Siyouni), who was ridden by Soufiane Saadi.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners after the final race of the day.

Hazm Al Uraiq

Kicking off the proceedings of the day was the 1400m Handicap (0-65) for 3YO+ Local Thoroughbreds and in a thrilling battle for the victory, the Raey Al Hessan Racing-owned and Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained Hazm Al Uraiq (QA) (Mandour x Hot Amber) just got the better of Hallab (QA) (Trade Storm) by a head under jockey Marco Casamento.

King Albahar

In the second race, King Albahar (FR) (AF AlBahar x Bint Al Shamaal) won the 1400m Maiden for 3YO Purebred Arabians in fine style by a length to continue the excellent week for owner Wathnan Racing and trainer Alban de Mieulle. It was the 3YO colt’s third start and he was ridden by Soufiane Saadi.

Hareeb

The H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani-owned Hareeb (FR) (Mared Al Sahra x Princesse Monlau), on Qatar debut and after 5 placed finishes, took the third race as he was was a good winner of the 2100m Maiden for 4-6YO Purebred Arabians for trainer Rudy Nerbonne, charging home under Alberto Sanna to win by 2½ lengths.

Stanley Baldwin

The fourth race was a Novice for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds and it saw the Mohamed Abdulla Al Hajri-owned and Hamad Al Jehani-trained Stanley Baldwin (GB) (Showcasing x Madame Defarge) take the 2100m race in strong style, winning by 2¼ lengths in the hands of Hugo Besnier.

Tashkent

The Meshaal Bin Ali Al Attiyah-owned Tashkent (IRE) (Acclamation x Colour Blue) proved much the best in the fifth race, a 1200m Thoroughbred Handicap (0-70), for trainer Gassim Ghazali, coming with a great late run and winning by 2½ lengths under jockey Marco Casamento, who completed a double on the day.

Sir Min

The Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani-owned Sir Min (IRE) (Caravaggio x Danehurst) completed a double and remained unbeaten in Qatar, winning the penultimate event of the day, a 1400m Handicap (60-80) for 3YO+ Thoroughbreds, by almost a length and completing a double on the day for trainer Hamad Al Jehani and jockey Hugo Besnier.
