Shura Council Holds Weekly Session, Hears Briefing on Electricity, Water, Renewable Energy Plans

Doha: The Shura Council on Monday convened its regular weekly session at its headquarters, chaired by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

According to Qatar News Agency, the session began with HE the Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud reading out the agenda, with the council approving the minutes of its previous session. Attendees included HE President of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Eng. Abdulla bin Ali Al Theyab, and several specialists from the corporation. They reviewed topics related to the electricity and water sectors, the Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy, and plans concerning supply security, network efficiency, consumption rationalization, digital transformation, and subscriber services.

HE the Speaker and Their Excellencies the members welcomed HE the President of Kahramaa, commending Kahramaa's role in providing electricity and water services and enhancing supply efficiency to match urban and economic growth. HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim praised the State's focus on infrastructure development in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE Al Theyab presented Kahramaa's principal plans and the targets of the Qatar National Renewable Energy Strategy through 2030. He highlighted efforts to develop transmission and distribution networks, manage the electricity grid, and ensure service continuity. He also outlined the strategy to increase renewable energy usage and maintain grid reliability.

In the water sector, Kahramaa's initiatives to manage water transmission, reduce network losses, and expand smart meter installations were discussed. The role of the National Water Control Center in monitoring the water system and ensuring quality was emphasized. Additionally, projects aimed at enhancing water security and managing groundwater resources were reviewed.

HE Al Theyab also addressed Kahramaa's billing policy, digital services, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with the private sector. The Shura Council members commended Kahramaa's efforts and stressed the importance of expanding renewable-energy projects, particularly solar energy, and developing infrastructure to support urban and population growth.

The Council members emphasized raising the efficiency of billing and meter-reading systems, addressing service delays, and enhancing digital transformation efforts. They also discussed the proposed law on the digital protection of children, which was approved for further review by the government.

HE the President of Kahramaa affirmed the corporation's commitment to advancing the electricity and water sectors and supporting sustainability programs. HE the Speaker expressed gratitude to HE Engineer Abdullah bin Ali Al Theyab and reaffirmed the Council's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing supply security and resource efficiency.
