Doha: The General Secretariat of the Shura Council participated on Wednesday in the 47th meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, held virtually as part of the 39th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU).
According to Qatar News Agency, the Shura Council's General Secretariat was represented by HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council, Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud. The meeting focused on the activation of research and information centers to enhance parliamentary decision-making and legislative performance.
HE Secretary-General emphasized the importance of analytical information, accurate data, and in-depth studies as crucial elements in decision-making. These tools are seen as effective in promoting transparency and improving the efficiency of legislative and oversight work, thus enhancing the role of legislative bodies in serving Arab societies and meeting developmental needs.
He highlighted the significance of investing in research and knowledge infrastructure through the enhancement of human competencies and adoption of advanced technologies for data analysis, including artificial intelligence and statistical methods. Building partnerships between legislative councils and research institutions was also stressed.
The meeting included a review of a working paper previously submitted by the Shura Council's General Secretariat, which contained proposals for enhancing cooperation and information exchange in parliamentary studies. The proposals also supported digital transformation, development of research personnel capabilities, experience sharing in database management, and updating digital archiving mechanisms for parliamentary documents.
HE Secretary-General noted that the effectiveness of research and information centers relies on clear role definitions and the alignment of their outputs with parliamentary needs, thereby improving legislative quality and oversight efficiency.
He concluded by expressing optimism that the ideas shared during the meeting would strengthen the role of research and information centers and foster collaboration among Arab parliaments, serving the interests and aspirations of Arab nations. The meeting also facilitated discussions among Secretaries-General on improving coordination and administrative performance within their respective General Secretariats.
