Shura Council Approves a Draft Law on Combating Conflict of Interest

The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting yesterday, under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, via videoconferencing at the Council’s headquarters.

At the outset of the meeting, the Council welcomed the State of Qatar’s hosting of the Office of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) Program on Parliamentary Participation in Preventing and Combating Terrorism.

Then, the Council reviewed the two reports of the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee on a draft law on the issuance of a law on combatting conflict of interest and a draft law on the Shura Council.

After extensive discussions of the two reports, the Council recommended the amendment of some of their articles, and decided to approve them in their amended form and refer its recommendations regarding them to the esteemed Government.

The Council also reviewed the report of the Public Services and Utilities Committee on a draft law on the regulation of parking lots and the two reports of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee on a draft law amending some provisions of the Qatar Financial Center Law promulgated by Law No 7 of 2005. This also included a draft law amending some provisions of Law No 34 for 2005 on Investment Free Zones.

After discussing the reports of the committees, the Council approved the aforementioned draft laws and decided to submit its recommendations thereon to the esteemed Government.
