Samsung is planning on supporting its devices security updates for over five year. Currently, Samsung provides up to five years of security updates and up to four years of Android OS updates.

According to principal engineer and technical program manager of the security team in Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division Shin-Chul Baik, the company plans to support its devices with long-term security updates in line with its vision and in the light of the upcoming new regulations.

Samsung offers updates to a tremendous amount of devices that exceeds a billion device a month, and over 10 billion a year.

Google has recently announced its commitment to provide all updates to the new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones for a full seven years, which may encourage other companies to follow suit or at least improve their policy of issuing updates to make their devices more sustainable than they are currently.
