Russian President Affirms Need to Ensure Security for All Countries Alike

Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed the necessity of adhering to international conventions and pledges, and ensuring security for all countries of the world alike.

In an interview published Monday by Russian news agency (Sputnik), Putin warned of the danger of tampering with global security and not adhering to international pledges, treaties, and conventions, especially those made by major powers.

“And each time we expressed our concerns, we were told: well, yes, we promised you not to expand NATO eastward, but these were verbal promises, namely, where is a piece of paper with our signature on it? There is no such paper, so goodbye. You see, it’s very difficult to have a dialogue with such people,” Putin said.

The Russian President also welcomed China’s proposals regarding the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, affirming that they could be part of the peace agreements if Ukraine was ready to negotiate with Russia.

Putin stressed that “this is a manifestation of the objective process o
f forming a multipolar world,” pointing out that the partnership and interaction between Russia and China on the international arena is based on this principle.
