The Russian Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday that its air defenses shot down a Ukrainian drone over Belgorod city.

The ministry said in a statement that it had thwarted an attempt to launch an attack using a drone on targets located in Russian territory, explaining that the Russian air defense systems on duty destroyed the Ukrainian drone.

The pace of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Russian territory has increased since Kyiv began its counterattack last June, and these attacks are now targeting many Russian regions, including the capital, Moscow, and the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.
