Riyadh meeting discusses establishment of Arab Drug Agency

Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Nizar Mheidat, discussed technical details of the proposal to establish an Arab Drug Agency with representatives of Arab drug authorities. This discussions came during the first meeting of Arab drug oversight authorities, organized by Arab League at headquarters of Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) in Riyadh, according to a JFDA statement released on Monday. Addressing the meeting, Mheidat said the agency’s establishment would enhance capabilities of pharmaceutical manufacturing in Jordan and Arab countries by strengthening coordination and integration among various Arab drug authorities. This concerted action would strengthen relations with various world drug bodies and open new markets for medicines and supplies manufactured in Arab countries, which contributes to supporting and boosting Arab economy, Mheidat added. Mheidat also highlighted JFDA’s continued coordination, cooperation and exchange of “distinguished” expertise in the pharmaceutical sector with Arab countries to achieve pan-Arab drug integration, accelerate procedures for registering Jordanian drugs and medical supplies in Arab countries and open new markets for them.
