Minister of Labor Nadia Rawabdeh emphasized that regulating the labor market is one of the ministry's top priorities, which would be accomplished through collaborations with the private sector. Speaking at a meeting with the boards of directors of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry on Tuesday, Rawabdeh said that the ministry recognizes the importance of the industrial sector in supporting the national economy and providing jobs for workers, stressing the ministry's keenness to follow up on the issues and challenges facing this sector in terms of providing specialized skilled labor needed for the continuity of its production processes. She explained that the ministry grants the necessary permits for specialized workers with expertise who do not have a local alternative and allows the replacement of expatriates who leave the Kingdom permanently. The two chambers' president, Fathi Jaghbir, for his part, clarified that the meeting was in line with the chambers' strategy of having direct talks with minis ters and other authorities involved in industrial work. He noted that the meeting discussed the issues of industrialists and the qualification of national labor. Jaghbir emphasized the industrial sector's desire to prioritize employment for Jordanians, noting that the percentage of Jordanian workers in the industrial sector, except for the knitting sector, is around 90 percent, with a total workforce of about 260,000 male and female workers. Jaghbir proposed the development of a joint committee between the Ministry of Labor and the Chambers of Industry to formulate a labor policy in the sector in order to increase job prospects for citizens.
