QRCS concludes 3 medical convoys in Sudan

Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded three medical convoys in the Sudanese states of River Nile, Gezira, and Khartoum.

Assisted by local medical professionals at the host hospitals, the medical team delegated from Doha performed 1,800 medical examinations and 450 complex operations in general surgery, urology, and cardiac surgery/catheterization for children.

The project was supported by many partners, including Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Canadian International Foundation (CIF), Sudan’s Ministry of Health (MOH), Alia Specialist Hospital in Omdurman, Atbara Teaching Hospital in River Nile State, and Al Jazeera Hospital for Kidney Diseases and Surgery in Gezira State.

The volunteering medical team from HMC comprised: Dr. Abdullah Al-Nuaimi (consultant urologist), Dr. Ahmed Hayati (consultant urologist), Dr. Tariq Ahmed (consultant urologist), Dr. Mohamed Jassim (resident urologist), Dr. Mariam Al-Sulaiti (consultant general surgeon), Dr. Siddique Mohieldin (consultant general surgeon), Dr. Haya Al-Kuwari (resident general surgeon), and Dr. Yasser Al-Tarifi (consultant anesthesiologist). The third convoy was carried out by a specialized Canadian surgical team, consisting of 29 medical professionals, and they were supported by local surgeons.

As part of the project, the operating rooms in the host hospitals were renovated and upgraded. QRCS donated medical equipment, surgical tables, and an advanced medical machine used in urological examinations.

Dr. Al-Nuaimi delivered a specialized lecture on “Substitution Urethroplasty for Bulbar Urethral Stricture”. In addition, there were training activities and exchange of experience for specialized doctors from six states.

Dr. Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, Director of Relief and International Development Division at QRCS, visited Sudan to meet senior government and health officials.

He held a meeting with HE Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sada, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Sudan. They discussed QRCS’s activities in Sudan and how to enhance them.

Mr. Al-Sada stated that Qatar would always give every form of support to the people of Sudan. He promised to support QRCS in Sudan to perform its humanitarian role.

Dr. Ibrahim emphasized QRCS’s commitment to expanding its humanitarian activities across the country.

Other meetings were held with Dr. Haitham M. Ibrahim, Federal Minister of Health, Najm Al-Din Moussa, Commissioner-General of the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), Mohamed B. Abdel-Majed, Governor of the River Nile State, Dr. Abdel-Moneim Bella, Provincial Minister of Health in the River Nile State, Fath Al-Rahman M. Ahmed, Provincial Minister of Social Affairs in Gezira State, Dr. Al-Jilani Abdullah, Dean of the National Cancer Institute of the University of Gezira, Dr. Muawiya S. Ahmed, Director of Atbara Teaching Hospital in the River Nile State, and Major General Dr. Zakaria Ibrahim, Director of Alia Specialist Hospital in Omdurman.

During his visit to the headquarters of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) in Khartoum, Dr. Ibrahim handed over three ambulance vehicles as a donation from QRCS. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Khalil Sarbel, SRCS President, and Aida Al-Sayed, Secretary-General of SRCS.
