Qatar’s Non-Hydrocarbon Sectors Drive 80% of GDP

Doha:HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani highlighted the significance of Qatar's role in the global liquefied natural gas market, stating that the country supplies approximately 20% of the world's trade in this sector. He noted that disruptions in Qatar's energy supply have immediate impacts on global markets and consumers.

According to Qatar News Agency, HH the Amir discussed the challenges posed by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and damages sustained by energy facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City, which affected a substantial portion of Qatar's exports. Despite these issues, he emphasized that the non-hydrocarbon sectors have continued to thrive, contributing around 80% to the nation's real GDP. This demonstrates the resilience and growth capacity of Qatar's economy even amid complex circumstances.

During the inauguration of the second ordinary session of the second legislative term, HH the Amir explained that the state prioritized safeguarding its citizens, ensuring their needs were met, and bolstering economic activities. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of state institutions and the private sector in diversifying supply routes and securing essential goods and strategic reserves.
