Doha: Qatar's higher education system has reached new heights, reflecting its significant local and international scientific achievements. The State of Qatar has secured advanced positions in the Education Quality Index, issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, as well as in other competitive indicators and prestigious Arab and international rankings.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar University has been recognized as one of the leading universities in both the region and the world. It has ascended to the 112th position globally and ranks second in the Arab world, as per the 2026 QS World University Rankings. This advancement underscores the institution's commitment to high-quality education, robust scientific research, and its responsive curricula that meet labor market demands and foster innovation.
The recent ranking marks a significant leap for Qatar University, bringing it closer to the top 100 universities worldwide. This improvement is notable, as the university jumped 61 places from its 173rd global position in 2024. Other institutions within Education City, including Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, have also been recognized among top-ranked universities.
Scholarships are a cornerstone of Qatar's strategy to enhance its higher education system, playing a crucial role in cultivating national talent and building a knowledge-based economy. This aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the national development strategies, addressing significant labor market needs.
In a recent announcement on April 21, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education revealed the government scholarship plan for the 2026/2027 academic year. This plan revolves around four strategic objectives: economic growth, equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion, and talent development. A notable feature of this strategy is the Disability Track, which supports higher education access for individuals with disabilities through scholarships to universities offering inclusive environments and specialized programs.
Despite the rapid scientific and educational advancements, Qatari students continue to embrace their culture and national identity. This cultural integrity is maintained even among Qatari students studying abroad, who remain steadfast in their traditions and values.
Higher education in Qatar transcends the mere awarding of academic degrees. It serves as a pivotal force in creating high-quality local jobs, reinforcing Qatar's regional leadership in education, and empowering a generation to shape the future and drive positive change.
