Qatari Newspapers Highlight Shura Council’s Legislative Achievements

Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted the Shura Council's first regular session of the second legislative term, corresponding to the Council's 54th annual session, which was marked with achievements and witnessed intensive legislative and oversight work. The newspapers praised in their Tuesday editorials the legislative and oversight achievements of the Shura Council during its session, and its role in discussing national and societal issues, which enhances the development process, embodies cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities, and supports the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Shura Council emerged on the international front through active parliamentary diplomacy that conveyed Qatar's firm positions supporting dialogue, peace, and Arabic and Islamic issues. It has achieved an influential presence in international forums, which enhances the state's political standing and confirms the effectiveness of its constitutional institutions. What was achieved during this term embodies the development of Qatar's parliamentary experience and its contribution to supporting sustainable development.

For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper referred to Amiri Decree No. 30 of 2026, which was issued at the end of the first regular session of the second legislative term to formally end the ordinary session with effect from July 7, 2026, after a session full of achievements and witnessing intensive legislative and oversight work. During that time, the Shura Council held 37 ordinary sessions, completed the review of 23 draft laws, in addition to holding public discussion sessions and hearings.

The Council strengthened its oversight role by hosting a number of ministers and senior officials and discussing a number of priority national issues, as well as enhancing Qatar parliamentary presence abroad, through the active role it demonstrated across all regional and international forums, Al-Sharq pointed out. The Council's efforts also included highlighting Qatar's firm positions calling for dialogue, peace, and multilateral cooperation, and supporting Arab and Islamic causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, in addition to defending the country's interests in various parliamentary forums.

Concluding its editorial, Al-Sharq emphasized that these achievements would not have been possible without the trust HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani places on the Shura Council as a constitutional institution, as well as the cooperation and efforts of the legislative and executive authorities, members of the Council and its standing committees, their commitment and dedication in performing their responsibilities, their work in serving the nation and the citizen, and their contribution to strengthening the Shura process and national work.

In turn, Al-Raya newspaper affirmed that the Shura Council continues to consolidate its position as one of the most important pillars of national work through legislative and oversight performance that reflect the maturity of the institutional experience and translates the vision of the wise leadership in building a state of institutions and law. The newspaper explained that the Council's achievements extended to addressing societal issues, primarily family and childhood, through legislative proposals, including the Digital Child Protection project, reflecting the Council's foresight regarding digital transformations and its commitment to providing a safe legislative environment for future generations.
